Middle school humanities teacher

Arrow Preparatory Academy seeks an outstanding Middle School Humanities Educator who is committed to teach, nurture, personify our core values, embrace our vision and mission, and enjoy working in a collaborative environment with both students and parents.  Our teachers seek God first and provide a truly unique educational approach that is centered around the development of mind, heart and character.

As a Humanities teacher at Arrow Prep, you will be leading students in exploring humanity through the lenses of history, logic and rhetoric, sociology, and political science, emphasizing how followers of Christ should understand these topics. Throughout the year, you will help students deepen their understanding and love of humanity, facilitate their growth in empathy, and reinforce their identity as an image bearer of God.

The ideal candidate will be driven, flexible, and passionate about all that makes the University Model unique and beneficial.

Necessary Qualifications:
  • Love God and have a passionate heart for education
  • ​Washington State certified teacher (or equivalent)
  • Proficient use of Google Workspace (similar to Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and willingness to gain proficiency in other programs to best deliver material to students/parents
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with hands-on, individualized education (e.g. Montessori or similar)
  • Punctual, diligent, persistent and ability to adapt
  • Creative and patient

Teacher Responsibilities/Requirements:
  • Character:
    • Display a passion for God and a commitment to love, hunger for, and submit to the Word of God
    • Demonstrate Christ-honoring character and humility
    • Display a passion for educating children and love of learning
    • Teachable, humble and adaptable
  • Ability to assist families:
    • Assist parents in their role as spiritual and academic mentors
    • Serve as a positive role model for students
    • Collaborate and communicate with each family as needed  in a timely, effective manner
    • Complete and coordinate quarterly assessments as well as parent teacher conferences
    • Update Google Classroom regularly
  • Ability to assist students:
    • Support, invest and assist in the development of each student in reaching their full potential: spiritually, academically and morally
    • Review completed work and assess areas of growth and necessary improvement to ensure students are on track
    • Encourage children to become increasingly independent in their learning, becoming self-motivated and engaged life long learners
  • Curriculum and Classroom Management:
    • Assist, create, research and improve curriculum to provide the best possible educational environment for all children regardless of their learning ability or learning style
    • Create hands-on, interactive learning opportunities
    • Utilize effective communication skills to motivate and inspire students
    • Create weekly lesson plans and home assignment sheets for families that include an outline of material covered in class and detailed instructions for at home work/study
    • Ability to create a peaceful classroom environment that is managed well
    • Excellent time management skills
  • School Involvement
    • Supervise students during snack/lunch times and during recess
    • Attend all school events including and not limited to parent training sessions, education events, information sessions for potential families, and school socials
    • Cooperation with administration in policies, evaluations, development, etc.
    • Able to maintain a clean, organized classroom 
    • Monitor dress code and attendance
Salary:
  • $17,000 + Compensation commensurate to experience and qualifications. This is a part-time, contract position (about 9 student contact hours and 7 prep/meeting hours = about 16 hrs./week
  • ​Events and training will be in addition to these hours
  • Paycheck will be administered by direct deposit on the 15th and and last day of each month.
  • Discount for children attending APA and partial exemption from Parent Partnership Hours if a school parent
